Le Planteur

WE HAVE MOVED TO 80 UNIVERSITY AVENUE. Le Planteur opens a new restaurant on Inya Lake, at 80 University Road. Le Planteur (Inya Lake) upgraded even more to the next standard of finesse in quality, standard and ambience!! And so, Le Planteur (Inya Lake) remains faithful to its concept, in a stunningly attractive venue!! It is an exciting and wonderful evolution and change for Le Planteur - but the things you and I love about Le Planteur have not changed. A new Chef arrived at Le Planteur! The team is proud to welcome Chef Gil Dumoulin who will be in charge of the fine dining restaurant.

The setting of this restaurant is unique in the sense that it neither exotic, classic, romantic nor exclusive. But as a new comer to this restaurant, I really enjoyed the serene setting in the outdoor facing the beautiful Inya Lake. Service is tip top and food is well above par. The decoration of this restaurant is somewhat clever and attractive in its own way. For instant: 1. The legs of the red crouch in the lounge has a pair of lady's high heeled shoes. 2. The washing basins in the washroom are two elephant heads... and you need to find the handle to turn the water on... most guests twisted the elephant head first!

Enjoy the exotic, local cuisine of Myanmar, with its subtly blended spice, or select from a wide variety of European fine-dining specialties. Mandalay Restaurant at Belmond Governor's Residence benefits from a romantic location, surrounded by tropical Gardens and lotus ponds. Dishes are created with carefully selected local and seasonal quality products and also with love, enthusiasm and passion.

Most every traveler I know thinks this is the best restaurant and best dining experience in Yangon and I agree. I give an equal rating to the Strand, but the Strand is Colonial and Mandalay feels more Burmese. Yes, it is a resort, but where else can you dine on a beautiful campus where service and atmosphere is the number one concern. The prices are very reasonable given American standards. I love the place.

LinkAge Restaurant and Art Gallery

Linkage Restaurant is a social project as well as a link to Tha-Nge-Chin-Myar, a volunteer group founded in 2010. It is a pretty corner in crowded downtown of Yangon, Myanmar where you can enjoy a great collection of Myanmar Fine Art (paintings) and delicious food prepared and served by enthusiastic young adolescents with dignity!

Situated in a,busy, busy street with a narrow staircase leading to the first floor and nondescript doorway is this tiny eatery+art gallery. There is nothing fussy or ornate about the place. The Seating is simple....A couple of chairs are placed in the minuscule balcony too and if the weather is pleasant is a nice place to sit and watch the activity below.
Order your meal from a Burmese and Chinese menu that serves, soups, salads( don't miss the tea-leaf salad) noodles, vegetables and fish and meat dishes and then sit and relax, for it's going to take some time to be on your table, as the food is cooked from scratch.
What makes this place quite unique is that it is run by an NGO that trains street children in the food business. So it is an effort that is indeed laudable. Besides, the food is awesome!

Modern style restaurant which bills itself as the “Myanmar National Restaurant”. Food choices are typical Burmese, but extremely well prepared and tasty. Popular with groups, especially for lunch, but don’t let that deter you... there are several smaller rooms especially for groups.

I don't understand the score this restaurant has achieved. The curry we shared was overly sweet with a too-rich creamy base. The spices weren't especially like authentic Thai. It wasn't cheap. It stood out as the one of the few disappointments after a month of eating in restaurants all over Myanmar, especially considering the price. It was certainly not terrible, but really, what's the big deal ? Perhaps they are feeling overly secure.

Rangoon Tea House

Rangoon Tea House is a modern recreation of an old, colonial-era restaurant set in the heart of downtown Yangon. The cuisine is inspired from that of local tea shops, whose traditions stretch back to when Burma was a part of British India when Rangoon was the second largest migration port in the world. That translates to the menu where you can find Mohinga, biryani, and chocolate samosas! The mezzanine of Rangoon Tea House is The Toddy Bar, a modern Burmese cocktail bar with cocktails designed by award-winning and internationally renowned mixologist, Hideyuki Saito.
