Fireside Winery

Life is Too Short -- The warmth of the fire pit and the golden hues of the setting sun in the company of good friends with a glass of wine remind us of why we began this winery. Five years ago we opened our winery doors for the first time, in large part, because of the urging of a dear family friend who had recently passed.Fireside Winery was born from a desire to embrace the "life is too short" philosophy, a long-term passion for wine, an interest in diversifying our family farm business, and a wish to pass on our farm heritage to our children. For five generations stewardship of this small corner of fertile eastern Iowa soil has rested with the Wyant family. Few places on earth possess the perfect combination of geology and climate as this land. Though corn and soybean are our primary crops, wine grapes have a long history in Iowa dating back to the 1800's. Now our Fireside family is helping to rebuild a wine grape growing legacy in our own rich soils. We chose the name Fireside Winery because we value the special times and memories created around the fire side. "Fireside Chats" made so famous by FDR were also inspirational to us because of the intimate nature of the talks and how it brought our country together. At home some of the best memories we have are of family bonfires we made with our children. Along those same lines we wanted to recreate those extraordinary feelings at Fireside Winery and to share them with you. When you visit Fireside Winery our wish is to provide you with exceptional service and delicious wines, but also to welcome you as a guest in our home. At Fireside you can relax with a glass of wine at one of our three fire pits on our lawn, cozy-up on our patio next to our fireplace, enjoy an appetizer, and listen to some of the best Midwestern live music on our outdoor stages. We hope you join us and build your own special memories at Fireside Winery with a glass of our wine while enjoying the warmth of the fire pit and scenic beauty of the setting sun. Sincerely,Bill & Rona Wyant, Owners

What a lovely winery! Very spacious and beautiful outdoor setting overlooking some of the prettiest views of grapevines on the Iowa prairie. There are several patio areas and several areas with fire pits. There are a variety of lovely indoor areas as well. We stopped on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed an unlimited amount of free wine tastings. Then purchased several bottles and enjoyed a few delicious appetizers and sipped on some tasty wine. A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon in May in Iowa!! We will have to return when they have their musical entertainment as well.

What a great surprise to find this place. Our kids love anything "minature" so when we heard about The Barn we decided to stop. The craftsmanship, detail, time and effort that went into building these displays is amazing. We are not talking about a few scale model barns and houses. There are hundreds of structures put together in very well thought out themed displays. This place is great and well worth the stop.

Wasserbahn Waterpark Resort

Reviewed By michigandertraveler - Lansing

This was a one-night stop during a move across the country. Everyone was tired and a pool experience sounded like a great idea. The 'toddler pool' was frightening because about every 40 seconds, COLD WATER was unceremoniously dumped onto the waders. (The designer probably did not like or understand young children.) This area would be so much improved if owners would eliminate the water-dumping and ensure warm water for the youngest clients. There was a small warm-water pool a few feet deep, with a lifeguard on duty. Those in our party who used the water slides said they were plenty fast and one enjoyed the additional sensory pieces (lights/music) while another found the additional sensory pieces overwhelming and disorienting. We got all of the towels we needed from friendly staff at the desk.

While the pool area was okay, the hotel itself was unhealthy and no one should stay there. There was black mold on curtains and walls. The whole room was damp/musty; carpeting in room was damp to the touch. For rooms at a water resort, it is pretty sloppy design to NOT have a way to dry out the rooms or even a customer's wet clothing. And irresponsible to have those kinds of repeated comments over time and ownership NOT address them....just wait for the next unsuspecting traveler to be trapped in the experience we had.
