Voorlinden Museum

A very modern, personal, art collection housed in a beautiful modern building set in beautifully maintained Gardens. We loved the art; saw Rodney Graham's "That's Not Me" photographs exhibition, Ron Mueck's "Couple under an Umbrella, 2013", Leandra Erlich's "Swimming Pool, 2016" and Richard Serra's "Open Ended, 2007-2008". There was also some other modern art on display that we didn't like as much. The restaurant is over in the original estate build in 1912. We enjoyed "Voorlinden" a lot!

We were staying with Eurocamp at Duinrell and cycled to the beach via the nature reserve/dunes a couple of times. There are a couple of restaurants at the beach as well as fast food and take away stalls. The beach is very popular but you need to be aware that the parking area for cars fills up early.

Came here last October half term and this year staying with Canvas. Still an amazing park. The kids can go off free to enjoy all of the rides and it is very safe. There is bingo, karaoke and mini disco available in the Plaza bit haven't done any of these this year because we've been so busy on the rides and getting tired out. The queues are almost non existent which makes it brilliant for October half term fun.
The kids want to come back next year already and we haven't yet been to the upgraded water park yet.
We found an Aldi supermarket tonight but they only take Dutch maestro or cash not credit cards.

They have added a new experience for little children with slides suitable for little people. It means that all our young family can go as apposed to mum or dad with the older children. They have also added Triton as an bigger ride. We tried to find the best time to go and found 4pm was the best time. We only got 2 hours for €5 and wished we'd gone for 3 hours. By the time you get in and queued for a couple of rides, gone in the wave pool and lazy river, you are more or less time up. We did go again at 7.30pm with my older kids but for an 8 year old it was too much.
It is a great water park and excellent value for money. Would hate to come in the summer though when I imagine it would be rammed.

This is a great place to start a walk (3-5 km) to the beach and enjoy the beautiful dunes. The reserve also has a restaurant (pancakes etc) and lots of places where kids can play. Unfortunately much of the park's most beautiful spots (lakes etc) are not open to the public.

The park is nice, has a variety of landscapes and is a quiet and nice area to walk. I always love the seringenberg (lilac mountain) , a hill which has a great view when the seringen/lilac tree is in bloom and the surrounding area has a lovely color!... It get's even better when you combine it with a high-tea there at the old tea house (which dates back to 1861).. On the outskirts of this park you have the home of the present king of the Netherlands (Villa Eikenhorst), he will only move in a few years from now to the Palace Huis ten Bosch in the Hague (as that is being rennovated).

Wassenaar, Zuid-Holland

I decided to make a tour on my bike from Den Haag CS via the (both future and former) Royal Recidence "Huis ten Bosch" via the country estates of Wassenaar to the castle Duivenvoorde-Voorschoten(seat of the van Wassenaer family) and the historic centre of Voorburg.
I had lunch in the old historic centre of Wassenaar village on the charming square next to the 16century Dorpskerk Wassenaar.
Other interesting stops were the free park and garden visits of former royal recidences like Huis De Pauw ,Backershage and the flower Gardens at Voorlinden Museum.
The flower Gardens at Voorlinden are free to visit but the museum has an entry charge no museumjaarkaart as yet at Voorlinden.
In the main Wassenaar shopping street I admired the architecture of the former Raadhuis Wassenaar but in my humble opinion the architecture in the shopping district in Voorburg has more historic grandeur .
A charming windmill is present in the village.

This beautiful church is an icon of Wassenaar. Once you enter this very nice old church, you will be touched by the chandeliers where real candles are burning during the service.
(Great to see the chandeliers go up and down due to the winches- sponsored by an anonymous person)
In this beautiful church you can meditate, listen to classic Concerts or attend a service. Famous is the Christmas-Eve Service where a huge Christmas tree stands in the middle of the church.
Wonderful place to be!

Landhuis "Huis de Pauw" in Wassenaar

Reviewed By corstova - Wassenaar, The Netherlands

This used to be one of the nicest places in Wassenaar, especially for marriages. Finally they are starting renovating the building, it has been for years, at least 5 years, that this wonderful place has been in a deplorable state. The shame of Wassenaar!
Although the former mayor Mr Hoekema promised to renovate (and finish) the building, nothing happened. Until last Monday! So hopefully I can change my review from poor into very nice indeed.
Because once you enter the building, you feel yourself back in the old days of Prince Frederic.
