The whole day was really well organised with demonstrations, practical sesssions and a lovely lunch (prepared by ourselves). Jackie Kearney is passionate about her subject and a very entertaining tutor. We took samples home which my husband devoured and I have since made most of the dishes demonstrated with great feedback from my guests. Thank you to Jackie and her team who helped with the preparation and, did a lot of washing up!

A 90 minute stroll around Scamhazel Farm Farm with a calming alpaca. In small groups of up to 16 people, guests will be shown how to halter and gently lead alpacas across the land, whilst a member of staff enlightens participants on where they are from and what makes the creatures so special. Along the way you can take photos of the adorable alpacas and we finish with feeding your new favourite friend. Chilli Bean Cafe is open for hot savoury home cooked food, sandwiches and our delicious cream teas

What a lovely time we had here. You do need to book a place. Check out the website for times, prices and bookings. It will be the best 90 minutes. You are given a group talk about the Alpacas. How to handle them etc. You are then given an Alpaca to walk with. On the walk, you make two stops for a chance to take some photos. Then there is an opportunity to have a cuppa afterwards in the lovely cafe. Do wear suitable footwear like wellies or boots, as it can be muddy (weather depending). You can buy bags of food for them also. Worth every penny.

Chip and Pin Micropub

The micropub concept is all about keeping things small and keeping it simple! Our aim is to provide a continuously changing range of at least three real ales at all times. Depending on the time of year, the beers will range from Indian Pale Ales (IPAs), bitters, golden ale, browns, milds, Porters and stouts. We also stock draft cider from traditional cider makers As we are a 'free house', we are not tied to any one brewer or supplier - so we aim to use local microbreweries in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and beyond... In addition to our cask real ales and cider, we supply a small range of high quality wines, some bottled fruit beers and traditional soft drinks. Please see our Facebook page and Twitter feed for information on our current range of real ales.

Champneys Springs Spa

Driving down the private drive way to the spa and being greeted with friendly staff and a bag with your slippers and robes feels luxurious.
All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, giving us a tour of the facilities. However after this the experience is less luxurious. Although I can’t deny my day left me feeling completely relaxed, as others have said the whole resort could do with freshening up and a bit of investment.
On arrival complimentary tea and coffee is available alongside what I would class as breakfast nibbles (all food and drinks are very healthy. Great for people attending on a detox, not so much if you are just having a luxurious day with the girls.) we also had afternoon tea instead of lunch, again very healthy and featured lots of egg and salmon (neither of which I like), maybe stick to lunch.
I had four treatments, 3 were good. My absolute fave being the body wrap and facial, so relaxing I fell asleep on the table. My head in the clouds treatment was very poor, basically dry rubbing my hair for 25 minutes with no oil. I wouldn’t recommend.
Gym is absolutely fine for day use. All other spa areas and changing rooms need a spruce up. For a place that recommends drinking lots of water it’s actually quite difficult to get a glass full, with tiny paper cups and a few Fountains dotted around. The jacuzzi bath as also off the day we visit ted.
The male/female changing rooms have their own relation rooms, spa and saunas however you cannot share these if you are with your partner. Would be great if there were more communal facilities.
