Chapelle St. Michel d'Aiguilhe

We visited on a day early in September and there were few people around. We parked in the town and walked out, approx. 15 mins to the base of the rock with some amazing photo opportunities. The climb is not difficult - plenty of places to rest on the way, but watch out for countless small lizards on your path if the weather is warm and sunny! A delightful holy place to experience.

Beautifully maintained and much loved. The locals were always there. We were made very welcome. The steps were rather tortuous but it was well worthwhile.

We left to do the walk early as it was rather hot. The steps were easier than it had looked. My husband actually walked to the top of the statue and said the view was outstanding, albeit I thought from the tops viewing platform it was fantastic. Plenty of handrails and easy stages.

Take time to stroll, loo down alleyways, look up at the roof line. Take note of the evidence of old architecture, archways and doors long since bricked up. The place oozes history. It's a gem

El Camion is a must for those setting off on either the St Compostela walk or the Robert Louis Stevenson Trail. An inspirational visit with well selected lines to motivate those who will derive personal uplift from the gruelling walks. The personnel are welcoming and in particular François who is doing a fine job on reception.

When we drove into town this Shrine is the first thing we saw. You can't miss it from several different vantage points in the town. Unfortunately, because of the weather we did not climb inside but on a more favorable day it would be worth climbing just for the views at the top.

Pagès shop and small museum. Sale of Verveine du Velay, liquors and aperitives, and regional products. Free tasting !

Reviewed By James e - Hertford, United Kingdom

It's like a distillery museum, and has many products that you can only find there. Green Verveine liquor is the one i liked a lot. No english speaking people on site, but really helpful. Creme de chataigne is very nice, one part creme 2 parts wine and a nice chestnut flavored wine..cheers! Prices could have been better
