Can’t fault this restaurant. Never had a disappointing breakfast and the staff are delightful. It’s our first choice for breakfast every time.

Fraiche

It was immediately obvious that things had developed since our last visit. It is still very difficult to get a booking on any particular day and we were lucky enough to find a relatively convenient date on the first day of booking for three months ahead, but we were not prepared for the digitalisation of the menu - we were handed an iPad style screen with the details of the dishes and a very spare wine list, which made no distinction between by-the-glass and bottle, apart from the price, and the relative cheapness of some of the bottles made one imagine that they might be halves. The wondrous glass wall sculptures had been replaced by computerised light shows, a shame in our eyes, and the seating arrangement was more akin to an 80s coffee bar set-up. We just hoped that the food, which had previously raved about, would still have that wow factor and the almost poetic note shown in the anonymous little handout accompanying the menu. The canapés started arriving almost before we had settled in, a red pepper shot preceding spiced pecans, which were followed by cheese jelly with pine nuts, a yuzu gel and a clever sourdough cream, and then, in quick order, a tomato mousse with small chunks of feta. The West Country smoked salmon was elevated by a super bergamot cream and some smoked almonds, but the overall pleasure was diminished by the grated pineapple, even though it was not as acidic as it might have been. The Orkney scallops with a dashi sauce, grape gel, samphire, and hints of radish had an almost caramelised note which was not very pleasant. Granary and treacle breads were then served before the next course which took the form of a parsley mousse backed up by hazelnuts, garden salad leaves and buttermilk cream, and which was quite unremarkable. A tiny and not uniformly perfect portion of monkfish followed supported by rather bland carrot cream, trendy puffed rice, and accents of black olive. Not for the first time we were told that the reason for importing guinea fowl from the Loire was that it is simply superior to anything in the UK, and it has to be said that the bird was outstanding - the confit leg in particular - as was the artichoke heart, although the textures of onion, the ceps, and the nasturtium leaves did nothing to help. The two desserts, apricot sorbet with rice and frozen lemon verbena, and blackberries with coffee meringue, white strawberries and pistachio cake failed to make a lasting impression. Our fond memories were not lived up to.

Flissy’s Coffee Shop

Dog friend coffee shop, based on the Wirral way. Open all year round. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

I am pretty sure the beautiful sun that made us so sweaty and hungry has contributed to the food tasting so good at Flissy's. So good that we visited it again on the way back.Good restaurants have common traits: good food of course, friendly staff, clean environment, pleasant toilets and, last but not least, good customers. Flissy is full of dog-walkers and there is a bowl dedicated for the dogs in every table. Any customer, even a one-timer like me, cannot miss the happiness of the dogs and their owners. And the happiness spreads.

Hidden away, yet providing good fresh food is this cafe in west Kirby. Had just a dude if chorizo with my drink, which was both tasty and generous and only £2. This said, the prices in general where above average .

Very warm welcome by staff in very pleasant surroundings. We had the set three course which gave limited choice but was very competitively priced with a bottle of their house red ( excellent). It was our decision to choose the set lunch menu , which was well cooked and appropriate , and it did not disappoint. However perhaps we should have been more adventurous. We certainly would go back.Hence five stars because it delivered what it said on the label and I could not fault their service or atmosphere and the food was our choice based upon value for money . Great place to take the family.Thank you so much 54ken_S, that was a lovely and detailed review for us. We hope to see you again soon so you can explore our menu even more. Thanks, Ceri.

Myself and 5 friends had the most wonderful meal midweek. The service was excellent, the surroundings really nice but the food was the key. All home cooked and fresh and fantastic value. It’s a restaurant I would return to like a shot if I lived locally. Next time I am in Hoylake, it is top of my list of destinations. Wonderful.!!

The TeeRoom

We went here for breakfast recently and unfortunately won’t be returning. We asked for the bacon to be crispy but it was hard when it was served (there’s a difference between crispy and burnt). The biggest issue for me though was that the place looks like it needs a good clean everywhere and some TLC. It’s trying to bit a vintage-style tea room but sadly we felt it was more of a greasy caff. With some many places to choose from in the local area I feel the owners need to up their game.

The Gravesberie Inn, Greene King Pub & Grill

At The Gravesberie Inn we're obsessed about our food and service. Whatever the occasion, quality, freshness, value for money and great service all matter.

Visited the gravesberie inn at the weekend to celebrate family birthdays. We were shown to our table that was private which was amazing. Table was decorated with helium balloons which was a nice addition. Our server for the evening Jeannie, was very attentive and helpful taking our order for drinks and then for our food. Our meals were all excellent and could not be faulted. I had the seafood grill which was well presented and delicious. My husband had rump steak and beef dripping gravy, which he said was cooked just as he had asked. Excellent in every way.

Ate here with a large family group on Sunday. Pub was nice enough and staff fine. I ordered the roast and although the portions were large and the meat OK, the Yorkshire was on the cold side and the crispy parsnips were over done. Funny choice of veg for this time of year. Others did report their choices were good though.
