Walk through the doors of this wonderful house and the only word that comes to mind is "Wow"
Built as family home and still available for weddings where you can sleep in the most sumptious of surroundings. The house has treasures galore with a thrill in every room. From tapestries to Russian icons, vaulted ceilings making a Cathedral like embiance. This house and winderful Gardens need a long visit you can't see it all in an hour even two. The Gardens are extensive. There is a cafe serving hot and cold food. If you are visiting Rothesay Mount Stuart house is a must see.

Historic Scotland do it again.... The grounds had been recently tended in the main attraction areas...
It was a worthwhile wee walk from the road...
It doesn’t appear to be much but take your time and wander outward from the ruins....
I found the Well and the stone with the Cross Base Hole...
Check out the Class distinction in the burial grounds

Bute Brew Co.

Conceived in 2014 by Aidan Canavan, a biologist by training, Bute Brew Co. is situated in the centre of Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. Our Brewery is open for visitors so you can come in and see how we make the beers, sample the beers in our bar and beer garden. You can also buy bottles to take home or as a fantastic gift for someone if your feeling generous! Our beer is available on draft or bottle in most of the pubs and restaurants around the island. We are also finding the demand is increasing and our beer is popping up in lots of pubs and off-licences around the country.

This is a cracking little brewery. It's not much bigger than your average garage, but it is a functioning brewery producing some brilliant beers. The guide/barman/chef/waiter was great. He knew all about the brewing process, knew the stories behind the brew names and made some great recommendations for food, which was also fantastic! The Dukkuh (it's foreign - google it) was amazing and the pizza to follow was simply to die for. It is a travesty that this place is rated below a toilet in terms of things to do in Bute. Please help me put that right!

Rothesay Castle

Situated on the Isle of Bute, Rothesay Castles dates back to the early 13th century and is remarkably well preserved in spite of its age. Built by the Stewart family to defend against invading Norwegian fleets, Rothesay’s immense circular curtain wall makes it unique in Scotland. In 1230 it survived a three-day siege by King Haakon IV of Norway which precipitated the castle’s fortification with four round towers. It became a royal residence soon after and was later occupied by Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence and served as a base for Cromwell’s troops in the late 17th century. The grandiose great hall in the gatehouse was restored by a Marquess of Bute in 1900 which now contains informative interpretive display which illuminate the history of the castle and its inhabitants. The 15th century St Michael’s Chapel in the courtyard is another of the castle’s impressive surviving features.

Our main visit target on Bute was the Mount Stuart house so how wonderful that this Castle is in the town centre and with easy access ... the locals are lucky with this on the doorstep!
Lots of history and clean and open viewing and a great wee video.....
especially since I’d seen some of the Vikings festival earlier this year in Tarbert...!
This Castle is 30 on HS area listing and strangely we’d done 29 the previous day
Well done again HS..... our joint members fee is money being put to great use

This museum is fantastic. It is very low entry fee and full of great exhibits and artefacts. This really is an old school museum where you just look around, although the lady at the reception was invaluable and a mine of local information – very helpful. This is 10/10 and a must see.

It's a shame this beautiful church is ruined now; you can see how amazing it must have been in its former glory. An interesting walk, and a keen photographer will make much of its structural power.
