With a wide range of premium and luxury brands presented in flagship outlet stores OUTLETCITY Metzingen offers an incredible date with the stars of the fashion scene. The glamorous star cast from Armani, Etro, Hugo Boss to Polo Ralph Lauren and Ermenegildo Zegna was recently joined by the luxury labels Gucci and Bottega Veneta. Award-winning architecture shapes the urban townscape and thanks to the wide choice of fashion and lifestyle products every visitor will enjoy a fascinating shopping experience with prices reduced by up to 70% throughout the year (compared to the former RRP if there is any). The picturesque town Metzingen 30 km south of Stuttgart and about 2 hours from Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich is one of the most successful factory outlet locations in Europe with approximately 3.5 million visitors from 185 nations every year. The reason for this success lies in the traditional past of the town as a center of textile industry and hometown of Hugo Boss.
Reading a lot of reviews before going there I expected mostly the top brands and thought about this as a excursion more than shopping. And yes, Burburry, Bodega Veneta et al do not disappoint but how many times do you buy a new trench coat... and of course Hugo Boss is an amazing bargain against any prices I have seen anywhere (for the original stuff - not produced in China as 99 bucks suit...). Real coats for under 300 bucks and suits, not the "special line" but regular for 400 bucks is really a bargain from anything I know from North America, Switzerland or Singapore...
All good. The real treasure are all the other stores which aremore European brands or call it "regular" stuff. Those are awesome and something for insider... There is Falke outlet, real outlet not "named outlet" where you get Falke socks etc for half price. And then there is the Schiesser store for under wear (if you like to wear real comfy high end and not Calvins...). And of source WMF with ridiculous offers. All typical german brands.
And then you have the middle class stuff like Escada, Esprit (huge outlet about 50% of versus regular if you go for bargains) and of course the Swiss Lindt store.
All said - prepare to spend time and float and check for the cool stuff instead of being blinded by the big section towards the parking lot.
And said - yes, most of the Asian friends go gaga over the Burberry and alike but be smart and go for real value instead of label :-).
Food - ignore the bakery shop inside the red mall. it is great but crowed like a gangster party. Go 200 meters towards the actual town (behind the tourist info) and you get great comfy real schwabian food. for low price.
Enjoy ! May the credit card be with you...

We visited Bad Urach on our roadtrip kind of accidentally and had no idea what to do there. We heard about this waterfall and decided to go and see it. It exceeded all our expectations and was beyond beautiful! The walking route was nice and quite short. I recommend to go up behind the waterfall, although it might be a bit wet and slippery. 2 hours including walking was enough for us to have a nice waterfall experience.

This thermal bath is excellent value, has a wide variety of water-based exercises and activities (some guided by instructors) and the staff are friendly and helpful. The charges are far below what you would pay in a hotel and the facilities much better. The best value is in the form of a weekly ticket. Parking is ample and there is a restaurant in the complex, serving drinks, pastries, snacks and meals. Whenever my wife feels her joints are creaking or tired, we say we should make a return to Beuren, and we very much hope to do so.

It is an old church build in Gothic stile in the 13-14th century. The interior is rebuild in neo gothic stile in the 18th century. It is situated on the shopping street (Wilhemstrasse) a opposed to the main train station. a few hundred meters from the central square of the city.
It is a nice place to visit and have a few moments of tranquility.

After striking out during our first attempt, we tried again about a month later. It turns out the ruine is losing some if it's structure so the forest/park service is doing some safety maintenance; a fencing was placed to keep it from falling on your head. What a great visit we had. The base in intact so you can see the design of the structure and the view is great! We made a third trip a few weeks later and enjoyed our lunch with a view of Bad Urach. So glad that winter came late so we could enjoy the weather before heading home after Christmas.
The recommended 2-3 is for the hike up/down and the visit.

Metzingen is a rather small and very beautiful city famous of fashion outlet, shopping and Hugo Boss. While in Metzigen Kelternplatz seems to be a place to dinner or lunch.
