Falling Waters State Park is a small state park home to Florida's highest waterfall at 72 feet - Falling Waters Sink. A small creek tumbles down into a deep sinkhole and disappears into an underground cave. The creek is very small and it can dry up completely so best to visit after a good rain. Besides the waterfall, there are a couple short hiking trails, a campground and a 2-acre lake for swimming. I spotted some beautiful mountain azalea blooming along the trails. Another trail leads to sinkholes, but it was closed when I visited.

Take a tour of Beautiful Holmes Creek and see Cypress Springs one of the country's most beautiful freshwater springs! We offer custom trips planned specifically for you. The 25 mile stretch of creek that we service has something for everyone. From great swimming, fishing, and rope swings for a day of family fun to miles of uninterrupted nature for the avid outdoorsman.
We decided to go a spring to cool off today. This was our 1st time going to Cypress Springs on Homes Creek. We chose Snaggy Bend Outfitters because of all of the different choices for pick up locations. I have to tell you the people were super nice and explained everything perfectly. The spring was probably the most beautiful spring I have seen and living in Panama City I have seen most of the springs in this area. The spring was about 20 minutes from the landing that we launched from. After making it to the spring we decided to spend the entire day there. So we opted for the closet pick up when we were done, which was about 25 minutes down stream from the spring. After we got to the landing we called them and I kid you not they were there to pick us up in less than 5 minutes. We had some much fun that we are planning to go again next week.

A cave complete with rock formations and bats.
We love Florida Parks, we only camped one night but hope to return. The cave was wonderful, “V” was great and she loves showing visitors the formations and explaining them. We were lucky to go off season and be the only ones on the tour. Some folks may worry about bats, they have a very undeserved reputation. There were 2 teeny ones tucked into the ceiling sleeping, very cool to see!

A lovely Boutique with handcrafted gifts made in the USA. WoodWick Candles- Sorrelli Jewelry- LaContessa-Lucky Brand Clothing & Jewelry-Johnny Was clothing-Match Point Linnen Clothing , made in USA! Beads, Concealed carry handbags & we also have lay away all year long! Soapy Bliss Bath balms - Body Butters & bath scrubs - all made in the USA - Dock 6 Pottery coasters made in USA.
This shop is on an alternate route to the Panhandle beaches, somewhat hidden in an otherwise dreary backwater town. I guess most people go there for the stunning variety of giftable Sorrelli jewelry, but I value it for local artistry and the excellent taste of the owner in stocking unique treasures.

Off Highway 77 in Wausau (FL) there is a stone monument dedicated to the possum. In 1982 the Florida Legislature passed a resolution that the first Saturday in August would be Possum Day. Now you are probably scratching your head thinking, “Why?” Well, the possum did play a role in helping early Southern settlers during tough times by providing an additional food source… so that’s kinda worthy of a monument. Baked possum is still a popular dish. Of course, modern recipes involve beer and Tabasco sauce!
But what would a monument be without a festival? There is a Possum Festival every year in August. ;)
The only place we found to park is a gas station across the street, so be careful when walking across the highway.

We were surprised to find a visitors center entering Florida from Alabama on highway 231, since they are normally reserved for interstates. Once inside they had information, maps, brochures etc..on just about every square inch of Florida and the complimentary orange and grapefruit juice always hits the spot. Center staff was great.

Before I go on with my review, I admire what all the folks do for the wolves and educating people. It takes a lot of passion and dedication for all these people (most of which are volunteers) to take care of the preserve.
We went on a public tour on a Saturday. There were at least 200 people on this tour. We arrived at noon, signed the papers, and paid. The tour started at 1pm. We were ushered into the first area with the wolves. It was extremely crowded with all the people there. This was very interactive where the volunteers walked around with treats for the wolves so that everyone could get close and pet the wolves. Great tour guide as well. Then we took a break and were led out of the area. This is where the tour fell apart.
About 30 minutes later, they started forming a line to get back into the pen to take pictures. They did this in groups of about 8 people at a time. This took about 2.5 hours total to get everyone cycled through for pictures. Then they led everyone into a different area for about a 30 minute tour with the arctic wolves which weren’t very interested in the audience.
Then you could go through the area with small animals which we skipped because it was about 5 pm at this point.
They could do so much more with this tour to expedite things and reduce the long wait times and make this experience much more enjoyable.

If you're looking for Florida wine, Old Oaks Vineyard is a great place to find it. Bridget has been offering wine tastings and her award-winning wines since 2006. It's a bit hard to find, 2 miles down a dirt road (Will Lee Road), but worth the trip. She has peach, watermelon, and pumpkin wine, along with white and red table wines. Wine tasting in the Florida countryside makes a good daytrip.
