The place is a bit better than average but not "very good"...let's say it's good.
I took the fish, good quality, large enough portion, served with salad and fires or potatos.
a friend took the steak which came with a load of beens, carrots which tasted as canned food. there were sooo many of them that it simply cut the apetite. but else the meat was good and the rest of the food is good.

would never have discovered this place without a Trip Advisor recommendation...
tucked away on a back road a guest house with restaurant.... beautiful setting in the woods.... actually driving time from Hinterzarten where we stayed not very long....but definitely off the beaten path...
place was closed the first time we went - do check on opening days and times.... next time it was packed.... locals, tourists - excellent food, reasonable prices - perhaps the best Black Forest Cake we had during our stay there.
service was fine... lovely St. Bernard to greet you but not beg for food... a gem of a restaurant and would gladly return if given the opportunity.

The food, the atmosphere and the lovely owners make Schwarzwaldhaus a standout in the area.
The food is typical southern German fare done really well. Whatever you choose, you will enjoy it. Cooked by the better half of the ownership team and done the right way.
The atmosphere is true black forest. Think wooden panels inside and a small garden in the sun with plenty of flowers outside.
The service is typical of the area, kindly and somewhat reserved - don't mistake this for lack of interest or lack of care ... folk are just a little less effusive down here.
Eat here.

Ravenna

This review is for Ravenna Grill located at the ground level of Cuckoo's clock work shop at Blackforest Village where Best Western and Glass blowing work shop are also located. (After eating, you can explore the cute village, elegant clock routine attached to this restaurant building by the hour and nearby stream and dizzying high arch for the train behind the village.)
They have basic cafeteria type food fare including coffee, burger and fries to begin with. If you are into more German traditional food, try big sausage, bratwurst that comes with sour mash potato. If you think, sour mash potato might be too much for you, you can substitute with fries or even rice I guess. Grilled lamb is also good and per their website, they are also good at Schäufele (smoked pork shoulder), Käsespätzle (egg pasta with cheese).
From desert, I believe more than 80% of customer tried their big and freshly made "Black Forest Cake." It is very good. Otherwise, carrot cake and others available.

Have been here many times.Generally excellent food and service. Probably my favourite restaurant of this type in Deutschland. Did however have an annoying response from (the owner's daughter no less!) on Saturday night when (after not having been greeted by the new waitress as we walked in - Rule No. 1 I would have thought) I was not satisfied with the wine I had ordered. The owners's daughter was far from sympathetic and handled the situation badly I think. She even went as far as to question my memory of the last time I had the wine in question!! (Only rarely in Germany is the Kundin König!) I guess she could not have known that tasting, buying and selling wine was my profession for many years. She should have been professional enough to know that when dealing with a regular customer who has never 'caused problems' in the past to just let it go. Maybe next time. Go for the truly excellent food and mostly respectful service.

Schwarzwaldhof

Reviewed By Wolvescyclist - Wolverhampton, England

We stopped here for lunchtime during a tour of the Black Forest. The hotel restaurant appears to be popular with tourists and locals and was very busy for mid-week. The menu was varied and included the usual German staples and some local dishes. We opted for a schnitzel and a local pasta dish of Maultaschen in a vegetable broth. Both were very good and the service was excellent. We will certainly be back when in the area again.
