El Meson De Melquiades

Reviewed By Ivonna02 - San Juan, Puerto Rico

El Meson de Melquiades is a restaurant where you can eat delicious food and experience very good service. Once you are there is very common you have to wait to be seated. Don't worry... go to the bar and order your preferred drink. Also, ask for the Alcapurrias con corned beef or Cream of Lobster.. both are delicious. Then, enjoy a Tornado (Skirt Steak filled with lobster) or Lamb Chops in red wine sauce.. very good! They have different options, such as Jabali, Cobi beef, Kurobuta Osobuco, Jarrete, Veal, Lamb.. among others.
This restaurant offer many different options cooked to perfection and delicious taste! Recommended!

Rancho Original

Literally that’s what this is, mouth watering lechon asado (roasted pig). Not a pork lover relax the menu has plenty to choose from. Ranch Original is located in Guavate about a 45min drive from San Juan on route 185 along the Cordillera Mountain Range. Also commonly known as pork highway. Make sure your stomach is ready to growl because you will need the space. There will be no shortage of food, spirits, music and dancing. Travel Channel Samantha Brown, Anthony Bourdain No Reservation and Andrew Zimmern Bizarre Foods are no strangers to this area. Every week end there's a festival like atmosphere with live music to dance your heart away and the few ounces you may have gained. The area is inundated with lechoneras whose specialty is seasoned slow roasted whole pig. Finger licking good. The pig is usually roasted for about 6 - 8 hours which ensures that the pork is pact with flavor, moist and tender. The roasted pig is not the only delicacy on the menu: as you will find roast chicken, Turkey, morcillas (blood sausage) and numerous side dishes, including: rice and beans, rice with pigeon peas, tostones, mofongo, sweet potato and much more.

I went on a weekday, big mistake!!! i had big expectations for this place because almost everybody i met in Puerto Rico told me that this was the best spot to eat some good lechón and i love this type of meat, i ordered plenty of stuff and i didn't like none of them, rice was hard and dry, yams were cold and kind of old, and my lechón skin was hard when it's supposed to be crunchy, i realized that on weekends the food can be better because they sell a lot, therefore they cook fresh food. The amount of people that stops to try their lechón is unbelievable, they also have some souvenir shops around. Overall this place has nice surroundings and i will try it again because i wonder i just wasn't lucky.

Lechonera Los Pinos

Reviewed By solarpowered1 - Nashua, New Hampshire

While we have been in Puerto Rico 7 times now this was the 1st time going on the RT 187 Pork Highway- about 45 minutes outside of San Juan. At the strong suggestion of our driver Miguel we went to Los Pinos, they have there own parking and Don the owner is the one directing you into your parking spot. Next you stand in line to look at and decide what you will order. We had 1/2 LB pork, 1/2 LB ribs, 1/4 LB Chicken sausage, rice/beans and potato salad ( my wife really liked this) all for $18.00
Make sure someone in your party goes out and finds a seat while you are in line, the place does have a good turn over but you need to have a place to site when you get your food.
There was a live band and the music was load but not to load so you could still talk, this place is mostly for the 40-50+ crowd and Famlies
We also got a tour of the facility by Don - he was great and made sure you enjoyed the time you spent there.

Lechonera El Mojito

Reviewed By Cyreese - Davenport, Florida

This is one of the best places to enjoy one of Puerto Rico's signature dishes - roast, spitted pork ("lechon asao"). For nine dollars, you will get at least a half-pound of the meat with crispy skin, accompanied by plantain, potato, sweet potato, and/or rice and beans or pigeon peas. Cold bottled beers available. You're in a rural mountain setting in a rustic atmosphere. Fantastically good experience, both for locals and tourists.

This restaurant is very popular for locals in Puerto Rico the food is good and it's ambiance is typical Puerto Rico. The place is large with lots of Seating. Appropriate for large groups and bus tours. Rice and beans cold beer and Pina Colada for those of you who enjoy tropical drinks. I have them 4 stars because while the pork was good I have had better, and the skin was not as crispy as I like but I won't knock them too much it was still enjoyable meal. Just not as good as my moms.

Brunny

Reviewed By Kermode73 - Guaynabo, Puerto Rico

This is my favorite place for Lechón (pork) and Morcillas (blood sausage). The Lechón is cooked ä la varita", the culturally correct way to cook pork in Puerto Rico. The morcillas are perfect for my taste, a bit spicy. They also have many other typical items such as "guineitos, amarillos, arroz", etc... I have been to many typical Puertorican eateries. Though this is my favorite, food is great, service is great, the actual place lacks looks. Bathroom needs to be fixed and renovated. The bar is just plain average or below. The place could use a little redesign and TLC. But as I mentioned, the food is great. Been here many times past 4 years. Have photos to add, but for some reason Trip Advisor did not give me the option. Be advised, they open from about 10 am to 4 or 5 pm, so don't plan for dinner.
