Castle Church

An important historical heritage.
The main portal of the church which was used by the staff to pin up messages. On 31 October 1517, Martin Luther pinned his 95 theses against the corruption of the Catholic Church. The act is viewed as a key catalyst for the Protestant Reformation.
Of course, the original wooden door was long gone. The current bronze door was put up in the 19 century. So don’t ask why a paper could be pinned on a bronze door.
Another must see. At the entrance to the choir are the tombs of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon.
Cherished the memories of great men, when visiting the church.

A specially designed will take you from the railway central station Dessau @5,00€ one way to cover some 20 km within 35 minutes. If you jump to the first floor and settle yourself there, you will get a double pleasure of seeing the train road right under you.
The park is some 10 minutes walking from the railway station in Worlitz facing the city centre and going through it. There you will find yourself at a large lake, near the Worlitz castle and the Bible Tower, a Synagogue, some other Castles, houses, Bridges and peices of beautiful landscaping, trees, flowers, etc.

You can cross the lake by a ferry @0,50€ or rent a boat. The place is quite roomy, so it is advisable to devote the whole day rambling around and eating at some cafe in town or by the lake.
The park is more than 250 years old and gives you a subtle pleasure of plunging into the older times, tranquillity and peaceful state of mind.
The park is beautiful in any season, each of them adding some natural touches with unique seasonal features.
Highly recommended either by your own or with friends and family.

as either a museum dedicated to old mining machinery, or as part of several festivals that have are held here over the course of a year. Special mention goes to melt! which is a great event. You can either camp here or take the special sleeper trains where there are 6 people to a cabin. Take headphones or earplugs for the snorers and be prepared not to shower at such events.
The machines are very very impressive and I am sure if you are a mining enthusiast this place will fascinate you, otherwise its just cool as a backdrop for a rave.

Forget the dubious thesis-nailing legend and see instead where Luther, wife and family really did live, work and preach (the last bit just Luther of course). Interesting assembly of restored rooms, with perhaps the "lightly restored room" being the most evocative and where Luther had his round-table talks. Comprehensive gift shop of his life, works and sayings.

Melt! Festival

Mark your calendar for a live event unlike any other. Unmatched in setting and line up the global open-air concert circuit would not be complete without the spectacular Melt! Festival. Located in the middle of a lake surrounded by colossal decommissioned mid-century mining machinery the museum peninsula of Ferropolis grants a spectacular backdrop to this 3-day mega party. Melt! is not only known to push the boundaries between music genres showcasing newcomers and local artists, but also to attract the greatest bands ever to perform on stage. While in the region plan for an extra few days not to miss two of Germany’s most splendid and exciting cities: Leipzig, just like Berlin, are easily reached within a 90 minute drive.

We liked the festival a lot. The location, lights, music and decorations were amazing. The only drawback was the people - some of them were very tense, not really in a mood for a party.

Stadtkirche, a World Heritage Treasure

Reviewed By tank1050 - Wescosville, Pennsylvania

This church has more of a connection to Luther than the Castle Church, this was Luther's actual church where he preached, taught and baptized. He was even married here. The church is behind the houses bordering the Markt. Its spires are visible above the center of town. The inside is beautiful inside. There is a modest entrance fee, but it helps in the maintenance of the church. The chapel outside is also available for tours, but unfortunately for us it was completely enciced with scaffolding. Don't miss the history to held here. It's a short walk either to castle church or Lutherhaus.

I did not expect much but was pleasantly surprized, this Church has real meditaitive atmosphere, and is obviously a much loved part of the local community. My Son and Grand daughter explored the tower, they said the view was wonderful, on coming out we has restful nap in the shadow on a grassy bank.

Apparently this is the mother Church of the Reformation, the place that Luther attended. Lovely Cranach painting and also a Branach sculpture The Beggar - other figures from related work are in St Catherine's Church Lübech. I will look out for them when I will be there in a week or so.

Luther 1517

This panoramic painting gives you the feeling of being in Wittenberg in 1517. It cycles through day and night and changes as you watch. Sound and light combine to make you feel like you are there. A three level viewing platform allows many differing perspectives. I wish I had spent more time there.
