We have been going to come here for many years - we finally made it. This great little theater in rural Minnesota does a very good job. We saw Steel Magnolias and Ghost Writer. Both were well done. Purchasing tickets online went very smoothly. Seating is general admission. Almost all the seats are good so you don't have to run in as it opens.

River Rats Outfitters Canoe & Kayak Rentals & Sales

Reviewed By scooterisu - Des Moines, Iowa

Rented two kayaks for my daughter and son-in-law and needed a shuttle for our own inflatable tandem kayak. We also needed some extra paddles because we had forgotten our own. Ken was able to accommodate all of our needs but didn't charge us any more than the kayak rentals. He also let us use his "secret repellant" for keeping the gnats away. It was also great that we were able to set our own 10:00 start time for our trip. During the shuttle ride, Ken provided us a lot of information about the area and great tips for navigating the river. At the end of our trip Ken saw us coming into Whalan so he met us when we came off the river. Saved us a trip to drop off paddles and life vests back at his shop. Ken exceeded all our expectations and made it a great trip.

As for the Root River, we took the 4 hour trip from Moen's Bridge to Whalan. It was a long day but well worth it. The weather was perfect, good water depth, swift current and beautiful scenery. We were alone on the river most of the way until we came into the stretch that had tubers. It got really congested, but that just gave us more obstacles to paddle around :) It was a great day kayaking.

I highly recommend both the Root River and River Rats Outfitters.

Bluffscape Amish Tours

Bluffscape Amish Tours of Lanesboro will take you on a fun, educational experience through the Amish countryside of Southeastern Minnesota. Your tour will depart from Lanesboro and travel to an Amish farm home where you will browse Amish-made quilts, stop at an Amish farmers market filled with fresh baked and canned goods, peruse Amish hand-made baskets, admire the craftsmanship of Amish wood furniture, munch on buttery, sweet cashew crunch you may find along the way, and purchase fruits and vegetables from Amish gardens while in season. As we go to each Amish farm, your Bluffscape guide will explain about the Amish culture and the families that you will visit. For history buffs, we may make a non-Amish stop at the oldest church in Fillmore County. Bluffscape Amish Tours are about three hours long and provide an abundance of information about the Old Order Amish of SE Minnesota. Bluffscape Amish tours are fun for all ages. Open mid-April through mid-November.

Took this tour on Sept. 17th,2016 with Joan as our tour guide in a very comfortable and clean mini bus. Joan said she has been doing this for 9 years and she really knows the Amish people, most of them personally. She explained their complete history and we learned quite a bit. The 3 hour tour went very fast and is worth the cost. Make sure you have the pie and ice cream at one of the farms. You wont be disappointed!

Rivers Bend Golf Course

Reviewed By Seniordad - Saint Paul, Minnesota

This is a lovely, challenging golf course which makes terrific use of the Root River, which runs throughout the course. The course is on the groups of Barn Bluff Resort, whose new owners tell me they are planning several changes. But first, here are things that make the course unusual and in at least in one case, distinctive.
* The course features several classic high tee, low green par 3's. However, one of them has something I've seen no where else in more than a thousand courses I've played. Though the whole is only about 110 yards long, you can not see the green! It's hidden by high grass between the tee and the green, perhaps 75 feet below the tee box. So this requires very precise shotmaking.
* The course opens with about a 180-200 yard par 3 over the Root River. Another par 3 features the Root River on 3 sides of the green.
Fairways are in good shape. It's easy to lose a ball in the rough next to a number of fairways because the rough, though not high, is very thick.
The back 9 features rough that is extremely tall and deep. You need to hit straight shots or the ball is lost.
The course could use better signage as it's not always instantly obvious where the next tee is located. The new owners agree and are in the process of putting signs out on the course.
The 18th hole also is challenging for average players as it requires either a very good long shot of 175-200 years over the river to a very challenging green, or a lay up in front of the River, and a tough pitch to the 18th green (which the owner are in the process of rebuilding)
The owners are very friendly. This is the only 18 hole golf course in Fillmore County, and the previous owners did not seek a lot of publicity for it.
Very fun course, moderate price. Strongly recommended

Great creativity displayed on this unique shop on Lanesboro's main street. This is a non-profit collaborative of artists that displays a vast array of items (though surprisingly, no Amish quilts, or other forms of artistic expression). Prices vary from a few dollars to hundreds.

The non-profit that runs this shop also does arts projects with local youngsters (please see two examples in pictures below).

This is very much worth stopping in to see. We did buy several items and were very glad to went in. This is NOT a "tourist trap" but a place to see creativity in many different forms.

This rope course it at Eagle Bluff Nature Center- Ia truly amazing place for you and your kids to experience. I strongly recommend them for any function. It was a great learning experience on so many levels. The treetops course was just one of the many choses. I am 54 years old- and truthfully would not have done this had it not been for the kids. They were ALL able to do it. I am very glad I did- it was indeed a challenge for me- but in life there needs to be challenges and it was a true physical challenge for me. Do it and you will be glad you did. I had always told my son he could do everything- and with the hep of the great instructors making it safe we both did it.
