Quite apart from the high quality of the glass exhibited, which is exceptional, the display is beautifully designed to show the art nouveau and art deco shapes and colours to their maximum advantage. Anyone visiting Klatovy, and anyone interested in glass visiting the Czech Republic, should reserve a few hours to enjoy this feast of the glassmakers' art.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Archdean Church

Reviewed By vakantiejozef - Olen, Belgium

Parish church, sheltering the miraculous picture of the Virgin Mary of Klatovy. The oldest church in the town was established shortly after the town foundation in the late 13th century. From the original building only a small part was preserved. After 1400 the presbytery was rebuilt, after the vault had collapsed the nave was reconstructed in 1550. The furniture comes from the Baroque era. After 1685, when the miraculous image was placed upon the high altar, it becomes an important pilgrimage church. The church interior can only be seen from the portal iron latticework (photographing forbidden, but when none present possible, but dark). The church is opened at prayerservice, but taking pix impossible as some eldery matrones keep a close eye on it. When you have the opportunity to attend mass (even not being a catholic) it more then worthwhile: when prayerservice starts tiny lights start to twinkle at the altar, the more the service progresses the brighter and the more lights twinkle; When the service in full swing the altar shines and twinkles like a X-mass tree on Christmas eve, really magical...
