We popped in for a couple of drinks after visiting the big hole - the very hospitable manager took time to explain a little of the history behind the bar which is, he reckoned, the third oldest still operating in South Africa (ca. 1870 at the height of the diamond digging when it is said Cecil Rhodes enjoyed a tipple here). The original bar and fittings are still being used, but the upstairs brothel is no longer in operation. Would still recommend a visit!

The Horeshoe Inn has always been well known for the good quality food they served, and going there tonight I didn’t expect anything else.I did however leave feeling rather dissapointed, a few reasons...- The menus look like they went to war, falling apart...- Our table ordered a steak, medium, it was well done.- Another meal was ordered with veggies. It arrived with chips and the waiter immediately noticed and offered to correct the order before we even said anything. It came as a massive suprise though when she brought a side plate and started to take the chips from the plate. It makes me wonder, who will be getting this chips??- I ordered a snack basket. The onion rings where not fresh, got the idea it was warmed from frozen after being cooked. Nothing spectacular on my plate.- The burgers on the table looked quite good. All in all I think this is more for a few guys looking for a bar, not quite a restaurant for you, your friend and your wives.

From poor service to oil drenched burger buns and cold chips! All in one go! Waiters not knowing what they are doing. Manager not knowing how to handle customer complaints. 6 tables and staff complains they are soooo busy they cant handle it! STAY AWAY! Rather go to SPUR or any place else but don’t come here!
