We came to Ston and Mali Ston before heading to Dubrovnik. The walls and the views exceeded expectations. The size and length of the walls made this side trip well worthwhile. The views on this sunny October day were most impressive. Lunch in a local restaurant rounded out the experience.

Located about an hours drive from Dubrovnik are Ston and Mali Ston, famed for salt pans and oysters.
The city walls are well worth a climb with beautiful views from the top!
The climb itself is challenging though there is more than one path you can take. Comfortable/ sturdy footwear recommended, the entrance fee was 50 kuna and you are able to park for 5 kuna/ hour in either location.
Well worth a visit!

Lovely stretch of beach where we would stroll to walk off our evening dinner.Just to note it does get quite chilly of an evening in early October
I was ok but my wife needed a shawl. The area was pretty quiet as we believe it closes in another few days for the winter.I can imagine it’s buzzing in summer and plan to return very soon

We tried on two occasions to visit the beach area but could not find a parking space unless you park above the beach area and walk into the area which is downhill somewhat not good for anyone with walking difficulties
There is parking around the beach area but is limited
It’s a lovely area and it would have been nice to see it for longer than we could
The Sheraton has a large hotel here

I visited this Arboretum whilst touring Croatia. It had extensive Gardens and all the trees you looked at were labelled.
As you first walk through the pathways and trees, you come across an old villa which looked picturesque with lovely double row of stone pillars and plants and vines climbing up them.
The villa itself had just had one entrance hall and the public toilets. It also has pictures of Trsteno Arboretum going back many, many years.
Outside at one end of the garden is a two way vista, when you look through you can see the beautiful blue waters of the sea and it looks very effective and pretty.
The other side of the villa is Neptunes Fountain surrounded by ferns, grasses and various plants, very popular with visitors.
As you walk around you see sculptures,an old aqueduct and a small chapel that unfortunately you could not enter.
The main path by the villa was really pretty with its low walls and colourful plants.
A lovely place to visit for a few hours and enjoy a stroll.

We have had such an experience like nowhere else. Island with a monastery inside the lake, which is inside the island at the Adriatic sea! What a unique beauty. These wonders of beautiful nature you will never forget.
We are full of positive emotions after visiting the Mljet National Park.
That is why we are always returning back from Toronto, Canada, to the beautiful Croatia.

If there is one thing you should do when staying in and around the Makarska riviera it's to visit the beautiful Baćina Lakes and find your balance on a paddle board. SUP Safari is the perfect way to see these lakes and go to all the places you can only get to from the water, the guys from paddle surf Croatia are friendly, good fun and know the lakes inside and really do provide you with an experience you won't forget, I already can't wait to go back. Thanks to Ivan and Matija :)

Peninsula Peljesac, the oasis of black wines, has been visited by many tourists and lovers of good drops in recent years. Walking along the Peljesac landscapes, the unavoidable destinations are the vineyards, taverns and wineries that are all connected to each other accidentally or intentionally. However, one of them is distinguished by its quality, knowledge and perseverance. From a small wine cellar visited by a small number of tourists, Winery MATUSKO in Potomja is transformed into one of the largest and most famous destination of winemakers from all over the world where Wine expert Mato Violic Matusko, presents and offers top quality autonomous wines from the Peljesac region and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. At the winery Matusko there are currently thirteen wine labels, six of which are quality, one sparkling wine, one archive and five top wines. Visiting this winery remains an everlasting experience that will be restored again with each glass of Matusko wine.
Wine that we tasted was lovely and we bought 2 bottles. Wonderful to find there were enormous old & atmospheric cellars below. Where you could house a village. Apparently the first week in December you buy a glass and then can stay and drink as much wine as you like...

We love French and Italian wines, but knew next to nothing about Croatian wines. Anna at Korta Katharina was so nice and helpful in sharing information about the different Croatian grapes, where they grow best, and how they match up with the food if the area. Anna also provided us with literature about Croatian grapes. We loved the crisp, dry refreshing taste of their Zinfandel/Plavic Mali blended Rosé. And their red blend (2011 or 2013 I don't remember) was another delight for us. Nice blackberry and fig fruit with a touch of vanilla, very nice! Having grown up as children in Minnesota, it was fun to learn that the owners, Lee and Penny Anderson, were business people from this wonderful state. This was a great place to visit and easy walk from Orebic.
